Studio Score Brief Checklist

What producers & audio leads should include before hiring a game composer — especially MMO, live service and AA pipelines.

Project snapshot

  • Working title, genre and camera perspective
  • Target platforms and performance budget
  • Engine + audio middleware (Wwise, FMOD, proprietary)
  • Ship / milestone dates and content cadence
  • Audio lead / sign-off contact

Sonic target

  • 3–5 reference games or tracks (what to emulate / avoid)
  • Tone words: heroic, grim, playful, premium, retro…
  • Cultural / market notes (global launch, region-specific)
  • Trailer vs in-game priority weighting

Scope by environment

  • Hub / town loops (target loop length, fatigue tolerance)
  • Overworld & ambient exploration beds
  • Dungeon / instanced tension curves
  • PvP & combat layers (stems, intensity tiers)
  • Boss / raid phases, enrage stingers, fail states
  • UI, character select, loading, live-event hooks

Deliverables

  • Stem count per cue (drums, low, mid, high, FX)
  • Loop points, tail lengths, loudness targets
  • File naming convention + folder structure
  • Revision rounds per milestone (not open-ended)
  • Rights: work-for-hire, exclusive buyout, or license
